Battambang Ophthalmic Care

Battambang Ophthalmic Care

On one of his trips to Cambodia, Michael was introduced to Dr. Ek Sarou, whose ophthalmology practice, Battambang Ophthalmic Care (BOC), was in a somewhat neglected building in central Battambang. Dr. Sarou provides free ophthalmic care, including surgery if required, to the rural population of western Cambodia. Michael accompanied Dr. Sarou and his staff to a village some 35km south of Battambang, where they spent several hours examining around forty people who had been awaiting the doctor’s arrival.

In a conversation later, Dr. Sarou mentioned that he was planning to purchase and renovate a building in the city, for an all-new clinic, but didn’t feel there was anyone outside of Phnom Penh who could provide the needed drawings. Michael immediately volunteered the services of In.Vision Architecture to produce the needed construction documents, and Michael and a friend measured the building the following day. Back in Denver, In.Vision Architecture produced the requisite drawings, based upon conversations and emails with Dr. Saou regarding requirements for the facility. BOC continues to provide free eye care to indigent

Cambodians, an effort which is supported by Vision Beyond AUS, an Australian charity.
